How to make a warm apple cider
One of my favorite oatmeal toppings is poached apples. Once I have peeled and sliced the apples ready to gently cook them, I use the discarded skins etc to make a warm apple drink.
Below, I have shared a traditional warm apple cider recipe, however if you are planning to use the apple in a pie or oatmeal topping, use the discarded peels instead of the whole apple.
To make an apple and cinnamon drink, you will need the following ingredients:
- 1 apple
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 2 cups of water
- Honey or sugar (optional)
Here is a simple recipe you can follow:
-
Peel and dice the apple into small pieces.
-
Place the apple pieces and cinnamon stick in a saucepan and add the water.
-
Bring the water to a boil, then reduce the heat and let the apple and cinnamon simmer for about 10 minutes, or until the apple pieces are soft.
-
Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the mixture cool for a few minutes.
-
Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve to remove any bits of apple or cinnamon.
-
If you like, you can sweeten the drink with honey or sugar to taste.
-
Serve the apple and cinnamon drink warm or chilled, garnished with a cinnamon stick if desired.
